It is time to look back on 2007 and Apel related events. The biggest event of the year was no doubt the Apel reunion, which with 35 participants was once more a success. You can read about the reunion itself on another page. In 2007 the cooperation behind the home page and Apel reunion was strengthened as Marianne Halliley joined the group with her distinguished qualifications in history and languages. Several people have contributed with information to the database and we thank them for their work. The database contains at the moment 316 persons, but there are still many holes here and there in the family tree and we would be happy to receive more information. As a new thing we are also looking for photographs of persons and events. No doubt a lot of you have such pictures and we would very much like to be allowed to scan them.
We look forward to meeting again or for the first time at the 2008 Apel reunion. We wish you all a happy New Year!
The Database now includes 311 people - help making it grow even larger by adding the latest informations from your family.
In the year 2006 the first Apel Family Reunion took place. When Anne-Marie Jacobsen in 2005 invited some people from the Apel family to Vintersbølle, she did not know, that this was the first seed of a recurring event. She herself tells that it was the obvious sign of interest among the guests and the possibility to co-operate with fellow genealogists, that gave the inspiration to try out a real Apel Family Reunion. In a co-operation between Anne-Marie Jacobsen and Kasper Beck Hemmingsen including ideas from others the idea grew and made the 2006 Apel Family Reunion a reality. It became a great success and we were encouraged to let it become a tradition. The 2006 Apel Family Reunion was as mentioned a co-operation, and it lead among other things to the establishment of the website www.apel-aner.dk
The greatest issue about the 2006 Apel Family Reunion, at least for the co-operation was the fact that the invitation was made open to all people with relations to Georg Andreas Apel.
It was a lovely day, and provided new energy for an Apel Family Reunion in 2007.
In the past year new contacts have been established. Both through the gathering but also through the folder and the website. It is our hope that these contacts will lead to new ideas and possibilities. We wish you all a Happy New Year.
The Database now includes 259 people - help make it grow even larger by adding the latest informations from your family.
The annual reunion of the Apel family has just taken place with around 45 participants. It has become a tradition to have a social reunion every year where the Apel family meets, talks and goes for a genealogical walk in historical places.
This year we started in the village of Køng with a visit to the "Køng Museer". In brilliant sunshine we were guided along to see "Gl. Øbjerggaard, the Hospital and the Spinning School". A visit to the top of the church tower made it possible to see from above all of Køng and its surroundings. The day ended with coffee and cake at the "Beværterhuset" in Vintersbølle, and some even had time for a quick walk in the forest and along the beach. Read more at Apel-Reunion.
Christmas is a lovely time for many families, but Christmas 2005 became a special year for the Apel family. Bonds of kinship were established between two lines of the Apel family. Bonds between Denmark and New Zealand! The founder of the Apel family in Denmark, Georg Andreas Apel, had three sons and one daugther. His eldest son, Johan Peter Apel had six children and those in the middle, Jens Peter Apel and Ane Katrine Apel, emigrated in 1872 with their families to New Zealand.
Over one hundred years later in 1999 a member of the Apel family in Denmark, Alice Apel Jacobsen and her boyfriend, went to New Zealand and searched for - and found descendants of these two emigrants. At Christmas 2005 she returned to New Zealand with her parents and sister.
The year 2006 will indeed bring new stories to the history of the Apel family. Read the diary from their visit.
